Marseille, Shortlisted
Hi, hello + welcome back to Shortlisted!
I may have just gotten back from Japan + Korea* but in celebration of the release of le SUD: Recipes from Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur this month (!), I’m keeping us in France and to a city I love + visit multiple times a year + talk about leaving Paris for. Someday.
For now, Marseille is a holiday town for me and it’s a very good one at that. There’s sun, there’s sea, there’s incredible markets and restaurants and coffee and pastis and wine. It’s also one of the cities we shot some of le SUD in (including the early access Marseillan cocktail recipe for you the end of this shortlist). The following Marseille shortlist includes my favorite food + drink recs plus a few shops and pieces of shoreline I love.
I’ll be on le SUD the TOUR across the US (with a dip into Canada!) this April, May, and June. I start in NYC then head to DC, Toronto, Chicago, Oshkosh, Seattle, Portland, SF + Oakland, and Los Angeles. Is one of these your/near-ish your city? Come hang! Chez Etienne a must for moitié-moitié (half cheese-half anchovy) pizza
Figure near to La Bonne Mère, I like to pop in here for a glass before dinner…though their menu is lovely too!
Prémices opened by two alums of La Mercerie, it’s the perfect place for lunch or dinner (mediterranean menu) or a drink on the terrace from the very good natural/biodynamic wine list. Just around the corner from Deep (see below) <added to the shortlist July 2024>
