Hi all,

This month we’re heading to Biarritz! I recently spent five days eating (fresh seafood! Basque sheep cheese! anything/everything with piment d'Espelette!), drinking natural wine and laying on a variety of beaches with a book, a bag of chips from the marché and my OOO on. I very much wish this exact holiday on every single one of you and have included all the spots I would (did) hit on said holiday (+ a few I missed but can’t wait to return to). There’s restaurants and wine shops and the specific market stands you should prioritize plus an easy day trip and a bonus recipe for one of the (many) sandwiches I made for the beach and am still dreaming about.

Un grand merci à Banana Republic for partnering with Shortlisted to sponsor this month’s newsletter — and for helping me pack for the ideal summer birthday meets heatwave escape to the Atlantic coast. My Biarritz, Shortlisted x Banana Republic summer edit includes this white shirt, a backless linen dress I wore to breakfast/lunch/beach/dinner, a pair of barrel-leg jeans, more linen in the form of pants, t-shirts, short-sleeve sweaters, a truly excellent sunhat, plus the ideal weekend duffle to tuck it all into.

As always, thank you for reading and supporting Shortlisted, have a beautiful rest of your month and see you in August!

[restaurants | wine bars]

De Puta Madre | I’ve been wanting to eat here / visit Villa Magnan for a while now and this was the first reservation I made when I booked my most recent trip. The meal did not disappoint. The kitchen is in the greenhouse, the outdoor grill is dripping with all kinds of delicious things, the wine list is spot on. Basically, it’s all magic. (Seasonal magic: They’re only open in high season from May 31 to August 31). They also have Chez Babette which is the perfect spot for drinks + small plates and also open for a shorter season (from May 1 - Sept 30)

Cheri Bibi | I popped in here for a glass of natural wine and a snack and immediately wanted to order the full menu (think contemporary Basque cooking). I highly recommend making a reservation in advance should you want a spot on the outdoor patio (though they do take walk ins at the bar) and ordering the anchovies

Deoun | Korean BBQ just down the block from Cheri Bibi
