Hi all,

I hope you’re having a lovely June so far. This month we’re heading (along with the rest of France) to the coast. Specifically, Shortlisted is going to Antibes, located on the French Riviera between Nice (Nice, Shortlisted here!) and Cannes. Antibes is one of my personal favorite spots to head for a summer getaway for many reasons: the sea is always nearby, the marché provençal is daily (except Mondays), there’s a fantastic spot for a pre- / post-shop lunch or glass of natural wine with tables that practically spill into the marché, a bakery that makes one of my favorite pissaladières in the world, a restaurant serving some of the best aïoli I’ve ever had and so much more.

Should you want to pop around the area for an afternoon, there are a few places I recommend pointing your GPS (see below!) but really, Antibes the kind of place where you can truly relax into the energy of the south of France. Wake up late and take a wander through town. Spend the afternoon reading / drinking rosé by the sea / pool. Pop out for dinner at night. Repeat. If you need a playlist to inspire you and / or just want to bring the le sud energy to wherever you are, listen to this one!

Thank you and see you next month,

xR

PS this Short Stay just down the coast pairs very nicely with Antibes if you want to extend your time sea-side (who wouldn’t)

[restaurants | wine bars]

Jeanne | this wine bar in old town is the first reservation I make when planning a trip to Antibes. It’s run by two very lovely sisters, the wine selection is excellent, the small plates are seasonal and delicious and you absolutely need a reservation to get in. They always have croquettes au tapioca et parmesan on the menu and for good reason…I usually order a few rounds. Definitely ask what the fish of the day is as they get it from local fishermen and it’s always changing / always delicious. The last time I was there in late May the fish option was mérou de la pêche antiboise (grouper caught off the coast of Antibes) and it was great. Before you leave, take a bottle or two with you to drink in the room / on the beach. Definitely book in advance, ask for a table either outside or on the bottom floor and say hi for me!

La Civette du Marché | if you’re looking for post-marché natural wine and/or lunch, this is your place! They have a great selection by the glass and a chalkboard menu featuring delicious classic things like oeufs mayonnaise, pâte en croute, onion soup and côte de veau. Definitely snag one of the outdoor tables which look out into the marché aka the perfect people watching spot

Restaurant Baba | restaurant at the extremely lovely Cap d’Antibes Beach Hotel (more on the hotel below). I highly recommend booking a table for lunch and/or day beds even if you’re not staying at the hotel + get the fattoush salad and one of the brochettes (ask for extra sauces). The burger someone ordered to a neighboring sun bed looked extremely good as well
